May Show 14/05/23

Today was the first Sport Horse Southwest 'showing' show and what a fantastic day it was! We hosted at the incredible Knightswood Stud and Equestrian Center, which is run by Lisa Guy and her daughter Sophie Quaterman. As well as running the venue and yard they also breed and produce dressage horses.

We ran qualifiers for the Sunshine Tour Hickstead & South West Pony Association which was extremely popular, all the classes were very well supported with lots of happy ponies, riders and handlers.

Our wonderful judge Lisa Davey was amazing today with every single competitor giving feed back to each and every combination, joined by Sophie Murrish as steward and Julia Powney Photography Results will be posted below, Qualified riders will have a 'Q' next to their name and letters 'ST' for sunshine tour and 'SWPA' for South West Pony Association. The day kicked off with the Leadrein/ First ridden where we saw some absolutely adorable combinations!

Todays Ridden champion Darcy is only 4 years old and is a cracking little jockey. They have only had 8yo Hightops Flower Girl for a month and are already making a fantastic partnership. Having not done much showing before Darcy took hold of the reins the season ahead will be very exciting for this pair. The Champion rosette and Sash was a perfect match with her showing attire!

Reserve ridden champion Edward Collis also has a new partnership with his ride 7 year old Eglwysfach Blodwen by Geler Glwynr, owned by Nicky Harrison, bought as weanling from the cob sales this mare has exceeded all expectations winning lots of county titles inhand, Now starting her ridden showing career. Edward at just 12 years old has only taken this flashy Welsh Section D to a couple of small shows after his pony was put out of action for the season. Mummy will take over to ride at the county shows but Edward will keep the ride for the junior classes for the season.

After the ridden championship we had the inhand classes starting with the 1,2,3 year old class, As SHSW we promote breeding and producing young horses in the southwest so was fantastic to see them turned out so beautifully strutting their stuff.

The Inhand Champion Moortown Snowflake by Moortown Countryman out of Moortown New Romance both have been to HOYS as breed standard Dartmoor ponies he owned by Handler Vikki Thomas and was bought directly from his breeder as a weanling he will eventually be broken and produced for her son Alfie, to take part in all activities from showing to ponyclub and trial hunting. Frosty (stable name) is already proving to be a very sensible well behaved pony around little Alfie. This year they will show on the county circuit and fingers crossed they will be as successful as they have today.

Inhand Reserve Champion is Nicola Wilton, Age 11 and her pony Hope Mandy owned by Nicolas Aunty Sam Gilbert, she shares Hope with her brother Harry along with other pony Star. Hope is 9 years old and they will be enjoying a season of fun local shows together with a goal and dream of compeating at Royal Cornwall next year. The judges words were 'This young lady was a pleasure to judge this afternoon, she was smiling all the way and was very attentive to her pony in every class.' Nicola was also spotted chatting to all the other competitors, complimenting horses, wishing them luck and congratulating on their results, she really is what we should all strive to be in our sport!
