Where we will be creating a platform to showcase what is on offer in the Southwest.

Firstly I would like to introduce myself and give you a little insight into my background and plans for the future.

My name is Becky I have had a passion for everything equine since I was a child, being an active Ponyclub member and taking part in various disciplines. Upon leaving school I turned my working life to horses starting work at a local stud yard, this is where my passion for breeding and performance horses started. With a supportive knowledgeable family behind me and the help of the stud I was able to breed my first foal at just 17 years old, it was a magical experience that I instantly knew would be my passion. 14 years on and my small herd has come on so far in not only the quality of the stock I breed but also the management of running broodmares and youngstock and direction my breeding programme is heading.

Working at the stud also gave me invaluable experience from handling foals and youngstock to producing for showing and grading. All of which I have carried over to not only my own but to help other people with halter breaking, loading and producing their young horses.

Alongside the stud work I am a full member of The British Grooms Association allowing me to work freelance with some top riders and horses in the SW. This has allowed me to watch and learn many different ways of the next stage of producing young horses ready to be sold on to the homes where they will reach full potential.

The one thing that has stood out to me along the way is from foals to 5 year old horses selling horses in the SW is extremely difficult, people from the SW often travel up the line to the bigger studs with a large social media presence and people from further afield would rather buy from abroad than travel to the SW. This has always baffled me as I know first hand there are some top horses being bred and produced down as far as Penzance.

This has lead to the start of SHSW.....

SHSW

Sport Horse SW is being built to help breeders, riders, trainers and owners come together to not only promote what they are working on but to help owners who have purchased a horse bred in the SW. I see many adverts looking for older more established horses, I believe there are many people out there who feel out of their depth with a young or green horse. SHSW is there to hold your hand through this with experts at hand to coach you through or ride your young horse when you have problems. We will be encouraging owners to buy horses that suit their needs with a temperament to match, training a young horse yourself is unbelievably rewarding. There will be lots of events and training put on by SHSW to cover every aspect of young horse care and management. Keep an eye on the events page and our social media to see what is going on.
